(St. Ann’s Bay Jamaica) (March 22, 2014) The St. Ann Parish Council will welcome a delegation of over 40 officials from their sister city Owen Sound to the parish this Saturday March 22, 2014 in celebration of 40 years of twinning relationship with St. Ann’s Bay.
The delegation’s visit will span over a one week period. During this time His Worship the Mayor Councillor Desmond Gilmore, Mayor of St. Ann’s Bay and other officers of the St. Ann Parish Council have planned a week of activities to introduce them to and engage them in aspects of the Jamaican culture and offerings of the parish. The delegation will arrive tonight at the Sangster’s International Airport and will be met by local officials inclusive of the Mayor, Secretary Manager and Director of Administration of the St. Ann Parish Council.
Activities planned in honour of the visiting delegation include a church service scheduled for Sunday March 23, 2014 at the St. Ann’s Bay Methodist Church and a civic ceremony to be held at Lawrence Park St. Ann’s Bay Monday March 24, 2014 to commence at 10:00am. Ministers of Government, Member of Parliament for North East St. Ann and Councillors are expected to be in attendance to share in the symbolic event. Local heads of state agencies such as the Social Development Commission, Jamaica Cultural Development Commission, the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Principals and the Jamaica Tourist Board are also expected to be in attendance. The civic ceremony is open to the public and individuals are invited to share in the day’s proceedings.
The delegation will also visit the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital, public schools in the St. Ann’s Bay area and attractions in the parish as part of their scheduled activities. The twinning of both Municipalities signifies a partnership of cultural exchange, economic development and mutual respect and understanding.
The Council has sought funding from the Tourism Enhancement Fund and Corporate Jamaica to offset expenses associated with executing these events.
