ST. ANN PARISH COUNCIL AND HEART TRUST NTA TO PARTNER ON PARISH LABOUR DAY PROJECT.
Widows Mite home for Abandoned Children with disabilities to benefit.
(St. Ann’s Bay Jamaica) (May 20, 2015) In keeping with the whole thrust and theme of Labour Day 2015, ‘Labour of Love, Nurturing our Children’ the St. Ann Parish Council has identified the Widow’s Mite Home for abandoned Children in Murray Mount St .Ann (Calderwood Division) as its Parish Labour Day project this year.
Widows Mite Home for Abandoned Children falls under the Mustard Seed Communities umbrella and is located in rural St. Ann. The organization was started in 1975 and cares for mentally and physically challenged children currently with an age range of 2-23 years. The organistaion though private gets most of its residents through the Child Development Agency. Currently there are 20 residents consisting of 8 boys and 12 girls registered at the facility with a staff compliment of 12 including caregivers, ancillary staff and an administrator.
This year the Council will be partnering with the HEART TRUST NTA’s North East Regional Office to execute its Parish Project. The National Youth Service is also on board and has volunteered approximately 20 individuals to assist with activities on the day. The Council will be receiving an allocation of $150, 000.00 from the Ministry of Youth and Culture towards the completion of its Parish Project and further assistance is being sought from the private sector.
Scope of work to be undertaken on Labour Day include but not limited to: Painting, reviving vegetable garden, tiling, relocation of office space, replacing damaged door jams and a general facelift to the appearance of the property. The Council is appealing to residents in the area and neighboring communities to come out on the day and lend assistance to the project. Trained individuals in the areas of carpentry, plumbing and electrical services are needed.
The Council is making a further appeal to individuals and organizations across the parish who will be working on various projects in their respective communities and businesses to register their projects with the Parish Council for the Local Authority to have an idea as to the scope of work being undertaken in the parish.
