BACK TO SCHOOL AMNESTY

ST. ANN PARISH COUNCIL
Statement from His Worship the Mayor Cllr. Desmond Gilmore/Chairman St. Ann Parish Council

(St. Ann’s Bay Jamaica) (July 07, 2016)  As the Nation look towards the beginning of another School year, the needs of our citizens, more specifically the residents in our beloved Parish become even more paramount.  The mandate of the Local Authority spans far beyond local infrastructural development, but encompasses their holistic needs. It is with this in mind, that the St. Ann Parish Council has made the decision to implement what we have dubbed a ‘BACK TO SCHOOL AMNESTY’ for our marginalized citizens/clients of the St. Ann Parish Council.

With the recent tax break proposed by the Government certain categories of earners which includes but not limited to our vendors in our 3 markets, will not benefit as they are not PAYE contributors. As a Council, we have taken the conscious decision to alleviate some financial burden associated with back to school expenses. We have collectively decided to:

1.) Waive Market fees for the month of August for all REGISTERED VENDORS in all three markets operated by the St. Ann Parish Council which includes: the Ocho Rios St. Ann’s Bay and Brown’s Town Market.

2.) A 50% Amnesty will be applied to all outstanding fees owed by REGISTERED vendors in each market.

The Amnesty will from August 1, 2016 to August 31, 2016 and will apply to only REGISTERED VENDORS as stated before.

The St. Ann Parish Council is cognizant of the fact that economic constraints are a burden to all citizens at this time of the year hence it is our intention to strengthen a relationship that we consider to be mutually beneficial to both the Council and vendors by undertaking this initiative. Education should remain a priority at all levels and the Council is only too proud to be able to lift the burden somewhat for parents, guardians and caregivers.
