St. Ann Parish Disaster Committee to spear head Parish cleanup activities.

(St. Ann’s Bay Jamaica) (October17, 2014) A massive parish cleanup day is the result of a subcommittee meeting of the St. Ann Parish Council Disaster Preparedness Committee held this morning in the Council’s Chamber, to discuss the outbreak of Chickungunya affecting the Island and more specifically the Parish of St. Ann. The cleanup day which is planned for Wednesday October 22, 2014 should see, all residents in the parish exercising their personal efforts and time to rid their communities and yard spaces of anything that is breeding ground for the aedes aegypti mosquitoes that spread or pass on the virus.
Residents in the Parish are further asked to remove and place all garbage at central collection points in their communities. Old tyres, cans, bottles and other items that can easily store water should be high on the list of items to be disposed of. Representatives from the various agencies have volunteered to work in the various communities in the parish to assist with cleanup activities.
The meeting this morning, was spearheaded by the Medical Officer of Health and saw representatives from various agencies in the Parish including, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), The Jamaica Fire Brigade, The Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), The Social Development Commission (SDC), The Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS), The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA-NEPM) among others. Members of Parliament Shahine Robinson and Keith Walford were also in attendance along with Councillors and Officers of the St. Ann Parish Council.
