FESTIVE SEASON TO SEE TRAFFIC CHANGES IN MAJOR TOWNS - Brown’s Town, Ocho Rios and St. Ann’s Bay to be affected.

(St. Ann’s Bay Jamaica) (December 10, 2014)  As is customary, the St. Ann Parish Council in its usual effort to accommodate smooth traffic flow in major towns in the parish will implement its usual traffic changes for the festive season, come Monday December 15, 2014. The festive period brings with it an influx of both vehicular and pedestrian traffic, the Council in partnership with the Jamaica Constabulary Force will implement special measures to ensure smoother traffic flow and the safety of pedestrians. The re-routing of traffic within the major towns are as follows:
 
BROWN’S TOWN 
The following arrangements will be effective from 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 15, 2014 until 8:00 a.m. January 04, 2015 or otherwise as indicated by the Police:
 
Vehicles entering the town from the North Coast will be detoured at the “Keep Left” sign at Cool Oasis Gas Station in an easterly direction along Huntley Avenue. 
Vehicles will then turn unto Liberty Drive and continue through Orange Hill to Top Road.  
Commuters will also be given the option of, turning down to St. Hilda’s Drive where they can park on the sides of the street or go directly to the Municipal Car Park. Public Passenger Vehicles (PPV) will also be able to access the Transportation Centre from St. Hilda’s Drive. 
Commuters who choose to continue on to Top Road will be able to turn left if they are going to Alexandria or turn right if they are going to Brown’s Town, Standfast or Trelawny. 
Light vehicles destined for Standfast and Trelawny will make a left turn at South Avenue to Musgrave Square while heavy duty and other traffic bound for the town centre will continue along Top Road. 
Vehicular traffic from Trelawny, Brown’s Town or Alexandria destined for the North Coast will be able to use the same route in the reverse direction while travelling around the town instead of through the town. 
No parking will be allowed on the Main Road between the Cool Oasis Gas Station and the intersection to Minard Hill.
 

Signs will be posted strategically along the detour route to guide motorists. 
Police personnel will be present to assist with the monitoring of traffic, giving information, as well as ensuring the safety of citizens.

Vending 
 (a) On Christmas Eve, traffic re-routing will be done so that the town will be able to accommodate the large number of pedestrians and vendors who attend the Christmas Eve Festival in this town every year.
 
(b) No Street vending will be allowed in the town except in areas designated for vending.  
 
1.) Street at Sinclair’s Bargain Centre will be open to vending on December 24, 2014.
    
 
OCHO RIOS 
There will be no street vending allowed in Ocho Rios as there is adequate space within the market property.  All vending must be done within the market. 
The following traffic changes will be made effective Monday, December 15, 2014 to Sunday, January 4, 2015: 
N.B- These changes are not limited to, but further changes may be implemented when necessary.
         
1.) One way from Main Street along Old Buckfield Road exiting at the Transportation Centre.
 
2.) No left turn of vehicles exiting the Ocho Rios Market and Rexo Plaza.
 
3.) No right turn from James Avenue at the clock Tower.
 
4.) No right turn from Point Plaza onto Main Street.
 
5.) No entry from Bent’s Battery onto Main Street.
 
6.) No Parking in front of Juicy Beef and Kamal’s.
 

ST. ANN'S BAY
Improved traffic changes already introduced in the Township of St. Ann’s Bay will remain throughout the festive period with the exception of Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, Main Street and Market Street will be closed to vehicular traffic. Vehicles entering the town from the hospital roundabout will divert right unto Church Street.
 
It is expected that with these changes, traffic will flow smoothly throughout all the major towns and that our residents will be able to truly enjoy their Christmas in a well-ordered and systematic environment.
 
Vendors are also being reminded that there are public health requirements relating to the preparation and sale of food.  They should therefore consult the Health Department or clinics in their areas before completing arrangements for the sale of food to the public.
