TRAFFIC CHANGES TO BE GAZETTED

St. Ann Parish Council to make recommendations for recent traffic changes to become permanent after technical review and follow up consultation.

.
(St. Ann’s Bay Jamaica) (November 28, 2014) The St. Ann Parish Council will move ahead with recommendations to make recent traffic changes effected in the Township of St. Ann’s Bay permanent. This was the sentiment echoed by Chairman of the Physical Planning and Environmental Control Committee, Councillor Ian Bell, last night at a follow up public consultation/sensitization held with residents of St. Ann’s Bay at the St. Ann’s Bay Baptist Church Hall.

Residents and the business community were given an opportunity to voice their opinions on the traffic changes in the township which took effect November 3, 2014. The follow up consultation came after a technical review committee met on Monday of this week in the Council Chamber to assess the success and shortcomings with regard to the changes. Representatives from the National Works Agency, the police among others agreed that they have seen major improvements in the township. Coming out of that review meeting, were recommendations for two further critical changes to be effected to assist with the quest for smoother traffic flow. These recommendations were unveiled at last night’s consultation.

Residents however for the most part conceded that the changes were a step in the right direction and that they have indeed observed a smoother flow of traffic and a less congested town. Their concerns ranging from, improving the road surface to accommodate the new traffic flow, traffic lights at certain critical areas, stronger police presence, relevant markings on roadways, additional signage, business operations, taxi operators not utilizing the transportation centre, bushing of roadways and lighting on designated streets were aired. The Chairman of the Committee and other Councillors present assured the residents that their concerns would be addressed as soon as possible.

The changes recommended to be effected on Monday December 1, 2014 are as follows:

1.) The intersection of Bravo Street and Main Street heading up Bravo Hill, will be turned into a one way to Royes Street.
2.) From the intersection of Bravo Street and Park Avenue, will be one way going towards the Parish Library.

Come Monday morning we will try those changes and we implore you to give them a chance to work and be reasonable with your criticisms, the Chairman informed the meeting. The changes are expected to remain as is for the festive period with minor adjustments for Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
